Catholics Boycott Miller Beer Over Folsom Fair Ad

(San Francisco, California) Miller Brewing Co. asked for its logo to be removed from ads for the nation's oldest leather and fetish fair after some religious groups assailed the posters as anti-Christian.

The ads for Sunday's Folsom Fair in San Francisco feature partially nude men and women in bondage sitting at a table adorned with sex toys in a takeoff on Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper".

The Catholic League, Concerned Women of America and an 'ex-gay' group all blasted Miller for supporting the event and allowing its logo to appear in the ad.

"Miller is sponsoring an incredibly outrageous and palpably anti-Christian event," fumed Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League.

Folsom Fair has grown over the years into a massive party and fair for leather and rubber fetishists - both gay and straight. It benefits a number of San Francisco AIDS and social groups.

In a statement Thursday Miller said it had asked to have its logo removed from ads but would continue to support the event.

"While Miller has supported the Folsom Street Fair for several years, we take exception to the poster the organizing committee developed this year. We understand some individuals may find the imagery offensive," said the statement, issued by company spokesperson Julian Green.

But opponents were less than satisfied. Donohue called Miller's statement a "lame statement of regret."

"Miller leaves us with no options," Donohue told Fox news in calling for the boycott.

Donohue is also outraged that San Francisco's famed Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are taking part - calling the gay charity, where members dress in outrageous nuns habits, a mockery of the Catholic Church.
